WE START FROM STILLNESS

We start from stillness. Bloomington Friends Meeting is a welcoming, progressive faith community. We seek to discern what the Spirit that lives in every human heart asks of us.

What Members Say

The Quakers have offered me shelter from the storm. They have given me a place where my personal spiritual life and practices can evolve without judgment and at my own pace. Their unique practice of silent worship refreshes me and helps me bring forward the best in myself. I don't know how I ever lived without it. My Quaker Friends, who have become my friends, support me on every possible level. I am growing and changing, I have a new enthusiasm for life, my feeling of loneliness has vanished, I feel content, and best of all, I feel loved.

Melanie Hunt

I joined Bloomington Friends Meeting 20 years ago when we moved here from PA so that I could have a spiritual home and raise our four children in this community. Being a member has enriched my life through revealing and supporting my gifts that I now share in the community as well as teaching our children to listen inwardly for the truth or Inner Light. Bloomington Friends helped us raise children into adults that are authentic rather than conforming, that trust and give to the world their truest selves and have open and honest conversations about issues that are passionate to them. This is a gift to our community and a contribution that will continue to grow.

Gloria Bruner

I moved to Bloomington under difficult circumstances during COVID and realized that I needed a spiritual home that is different from a conventional religious institution. The Quakers fitted the description. I felt at home from day one as I started to attend the meetings. The openness and acceptance that characterizes the interactions at the meeting house contributed greatly in helping me to settle in the community. This is a compassionate community with honest concern for issues impacting on the world.
